Classical calligraphy differs from typography and non-classical hand-lettering, though a calligrapher may practice both. It is like art but it is writing. It can be understandable or it can not. Chinese calligraphy is the same as Chinese characters however it is on a paper. Calligraphy means beautiful writing. Chinese calligraphy is like Chinese writing. Chinese calligraphy does not have a date of creation. Chinese Calligraphy was an important thing to China. During the Shang Dynasty many things were invented. Chinese calligraphy has no precise date HiIand began in ancient Chinese times. Legends say that during the reign of the Yellow Emperor, a man named Chang Lie invented the Chinese language. Calligraphy came after inventions of the language. It was during the Sha ng Dynasty that many important things were invented. Two of the most important things were the use of bronze weapons and a system of writing called calligraphy.
Calligraphy, literally "beautiful writing," has been appreciated as an art form in many different cultures throughout the world, but the stature of calligraphy in Chinese culture is unmatched. In China, from a very early period, calligraphy was considered not just a form of decorative art; rather, it was viewed as the supreme visual art form, was more valued than painting and sculpture, and ranked alongside poetry as a means of self-expression and cultivation. How one wrote, in fact, was as important as what one wrote. To understand how calligraphy came to occupy such a prominent position, it is necessary to consider a variety of factors, such as the materials used in calligraphy and the nature of the Chinese written script as well as the esteem in which writing and literacy are held in traditional China.
